Accomplished five-star eventerand Team USA member Doug Payneis a man of many talents—he is a well-known international competitor, trainer, judge, coach and author. In this episode, Payne talks about his journey in the sport, his biggest mentors—Jim Wofford and Annie Kursinki—and three of his horses who are qualified for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Plus, Payne shares his favorite training exercises and what he believes the majority of riding students need to work on. Payne has produced several horses to the top level of eventing and rode Starr Witness on the U.S. Equestrian Team at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, earning team gold and individual fourth. In April 2021, he and Vandiver finished 12th at the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by Mars Equestrian CCI5*-L. In addition, Payne competes in grand prix show jumping and upper-level dressage.
